Professional Background
After three decades in the tech industry, Sami has found her life’s work: helping struggling readers and writers to overcome academic challenges and reach their full potential. Her transition from technology professional to learning interventionist reflects both her professional history and deeply personal experience.
Education & Training
Sami is currently pursuing certification as an Academic Language and Dyslexia Therapist through the Rawson-Saunders Institute in Austin, building on graduate-level coursework in learning disabilities intervention. A Louisiana native with Texas roots, she holds a B.A. in English and completed graduate work in medieval literature at the University of Louisiana. Before entering the tech industry, she taught college-level English literature, composition, and technical writing.
Experience & Expertise
For the past three years, Sami has provided specialized one-on-one and small-group instruction in reading readiness, early literacy skills, reading fluency, comprehension, handwriting, and written expression, with particular expertise in dyslexia and dysgraphia interventions. Her technology career spanned roles in content development, information architecture, people management and project management, skills that now enhance her systematic approach to learning intervention.
Personal Journey
Sami’s passion for this work stems from her journey as a parent. Two of her children were twice-exceptional — intellectually gifted while navigating multiple learning disabilities including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and ADHD. Her third child was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and faced challenges with receptive and expressive language, language pragmatics, sensory integration, and emotion regulation. These experiences have given Sami profound understanding of the difficulty families face and an unwavering commitment to providing both educational support and compassionate guidance.
Professional Memberships & Personal Interests
Sami is a member of the Academic Language Therapy Association and the International Dyslexia Association. When not working with students, she can be found reading voraciously, playing classical piano, indulging in video games (a hobby she cheerfully admits is age-inappropriate), preparing homestyle Cajun food, and spending time with family and friends.
